Once in a lifetime Arctic experiences, professionally captured
Rather Chilly is an independently run adventure tour company operating in the rather chilly environment and lanscapes around Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland.
Led by a professional photographer with a severe northern lights addiction, every moment is captured with high quality mirrorless cameras and lenses, so you can focus on the magic while we handle the memories.
Our specialty is northern lights tours, where we’ll take you to a location identified through researching weather models where we will have the best chance to see the aurora. Whether it’s a 30 minute or 3 hour drive, we want to see the lights as much as you do so we’ll make sure we get there!
Limited availbility open for 2025/2026, book now!
Meet the founder
Aleksi Monaghan
G’day, I’m a half Australian / half Finnish photographer who left the warmth and sunshine of Sydney to thrive in the cold and darkness of Finnish Lapland.
Armed with some very rusty Finnish speaking skills gained from my Finnish mother, I moved to Finland in 2018 to complete six months of military service in Santahamina near Helsinki. After trekking through snow covered forests, camping in -27 degrees and getting to experience how amazing life was in Finland during my service, I’ve found it a bit difficult to live anywhere else now.
A life long photographer, I’ve always been around good quality camera gear and always had the knowledge of how to perfectly frame a subject. My dad is one of those ones who takes a few too many photos of everything, now this bug has been passed forward to me.
I only moved to Rovaniemi in August of 2024 where I seemingly stumbled into an awesome company that offered various tours around Lapland with a focus on photography. After seeing my first big northern lights explosion rip the sky in half back in early September, it’s clear to say that I have been hooked on aurora hunting ever since.
Rather Chilly is a business idea that had been cooking in my brain ever since I caught the aurora bug. People come from all around the world to Lapland to see mother natures greatest masterpiece, one the most beautiful moments of someones life if they are lucky enough to witness it. I want to use my aurora hunting expertise and photographic skills to give people one of the greatest moments of their lives and have it all documented in the highest quality possible.
